ipl
Rejuvenate your skin today with IPL treatments.
Intense pulsed light (IPL) is a cosmetic treatment which aims to reduce the signs of ageing.
IPL involves using a small handheld device that blasts multiple wavelengths of light onto the skin. The cells are heated and then naturally broken down and removed by the body. This will leave you with healthier, glowing skin.
Benefits
IPL is a suitable option for those who are wishing to have a rejuvenated appearance without having to undergo an invasive procedure.
IPL is able to treat a range of skin conditions, including:
- Birthmarks
- Scars
- Rosacea
- Melasma
- Spider veins
- Stretch marks
- Wrinkles
- Sun-damaged skin
- Pigmentation
The results of IPL will last longer than other rejuvenation cosmetic procedures such as microdermabrasion.
What to Expect
Prior to undergoing IPL, you will need to check with your doctor if this is a suitable treatment for you. There are numerous factors which will make people an unsuitable candidate for treatment. People who are pregnant or currently taking blood thinners are advised against undergoing IPL treatment.
Those who have active acne, have severe scarring, have been recently sunburnt or have keloid scarring should also avoid IPL treatment.
Prior to your treatments, we recommend that you avoid sunbathing, waxing, chemical peels and collagen injections for two weeks before your appointment. On the day of your appointment, we ask that you avoid using any perfume or deodorant on the treatment area.
Your doctor may also advise you to avoid taking any aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs or herbal supplements before treatment.
During the procedure, your doctor will use a small handheld device to deliver the IPL treatment. Throughout the treatment, you may feel mild discomfort, which is described as a pinching or snapping on the skin. To help with any discomfort, you may wish to have a chilling gel applied to the skin prior to treatment. The level of discomfort felt will vary from person to person and will depend on your skin type.
Following the procedure, you may notice the treatment area may look red, which will only last a few hours following treatment. You may feel a stinging sensation, which is similar to what you would experience after having a mild sunburn.
Some patients may also notice swelling in the treatment areas which may last for a few days following treatment.
We recommend that you avoid putting make up on the treated area for 24 hours following the procedure, however, you should still moisturise the area.
How long your appointment will take will depend on the treatment area. You may also need to undertake several treatments.
It may take several weeks to notice the results of IPL treatments.
